Mediation, arbitration, or other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) are methods by which parties may avoid costly and time consuming litigation. ADR procedures are less formal and parties maintain more control than if the case goes to court. Professional mediation organizations often adopt recommended levels of training for practicing mediation.
